With Photoshop CS6 expected to drop this spring, Adobe started posting weekly sneak peeks of Photoshop CS6's new features. This week, Adobe Senior Product Manager Bryan O’Neil Hughes demonstrated the new Content-Aware Move and Expand features.
Both features expand on the Content-Aware Fill Tool that originally appeared in Photoshop CS5. Content-Aware Move lets you draw a selection around an object and move it to a new place in the picture. Extend lets you expand objects in your drawn selection by dragging them.

Additionally, one time I was using a brush that I had changed the presets for and when I changed it back or to another type, I could not change the hardness at all. It would say that hardness was 0%, but it was actually still 100%

This seems to occur whenever I use Photoshop for a few to several hours. Currently I am quitting and restarting Photoshop whenever this occurs, but I had to reset to default settings when the brush wasn't working correctly

Text on Circle Cursor will not change from I beam text too; in photosop

In this quick tutorial we will show you how to use Photoshop to make text go around in a circle. We will show you how to do so in either direction as well as how to rotate the text. We can also use this technique to make out text follow any path we are able to draw in Photoshop. Making text follow a path uses exactly the same techniques as it does for the circle.

We will also show you how to do text inside of a circle so that it takes on the shape of the circle.

Adding Text around a Circle

Lets start by opening a new file what ever size you like. It is best you start experimenting on a blank file than one you are meaning to apply this technique to later.

We need to use our elipse tool to draw a circle to get us started. Hold the shift key down whilst dragging your mouse to get a perfect circle.

Now change to your text tool and take a look at how your mouse cursor appears. Make sure you are still on the layer you created your circle on and move your mouse close to the edge of the circle paying close attention to how the mouse cursor looks. You will note that they cursor appearance changes as you hit the edge of the circle (provided your still on the shape layer when you do it).

When The cursor change click on the edge of the circle. You will now see photoshop is ready to accept text but its on a bit of an angle. As you type you will see it now begins to type around the circle. So type away with your text. After so many characters (depending on the size of your circle) you will notice it become harder to read as the text become upside down. Type only as far as you can with the text still being up the right way then stop. We will show you how to fix the upside down bit in a minute.

Click anywhere inside your current text and hit Ctr-T to select all of your text then Crt-T to activate the transform tool on it. Move your mouse corner just outside the corner of the transform box until the mouse changes to the rotate icon. If you click and drag you can now rotate the text around the image. When you are finished rotating the text to where you want it hit enter to commit the transform.

At the moment our text is all on the outside of our circle. But what if we want it just inside the circle? Hit Crt-T again and place your mouse cursor on the corner of the transform square for our text. Hold down Alt-Shift and click on the corner and drag your text inside to make it smaller. By holding the Alt key as well as the Shift key we make sure that the transform maintains the same center point and the shift button keeps our perfect circle. Once you are happy with the size hit enter to comit the transform.

OK now its time to do the upside down text. Right click on the circular text you already have click on duplicate layer. Make sure that you are this new layer and hit Crt-T to turn on the transform tool. Rotate your text around to the bottom of the circle. When happy with where it is (ignore the fact it is upside down for the moment.) hit enter to commit it. Now change to the Path selection tool and mouse over the text you wish have at the bottom, Click on it and drag inside the circle. The text should now run round inside the circle. If you change to your text tool now you can edit the text to your liking.

That completes our run down on creating text around our circle, now to constrain text within a circle.
Photoshop CS5: Constraining Text inside a Circle

Naturally like the above tutorial start with a blank file and draw a circle. We change to our text tool and mouse over the edge of our circle, We will see the cursor change like it did in the above tutorial, however if we go a little further inside the circle will we see it change a second time. It should have a little circle on it, if so click now and start typing. The text is now bound inside the circle.

If we have made our circle too small hit Ctr-T to transform it hold down shift and expand the circle to what ever size you need. However the Cricle itself won’t transform so you will have to apply a transform to it as well to match.

Design Pixel Perfect Photoshop

When creating Web and app interfaces, most designers slave over every single pixel, making sure it’s got exactly the right color, texture and position. If you’re not careful, though, some common functions like moving, rotating and pasting can undo your hard work, resulting in a blurry mess. But with some small changes to your workflow, you should be able to maintain the highest-quality artwork from the start to the end of the project.Pixel-Perfect Rotation

If you’re not careful, rotating layers in Photoshop can damage them in a very noticeable, pixel-mashing way.

When rotating layers with Free Transform (and some other tools) to exactly 90 or 270°, the quality of the outcome is determined by the layer’s size. If the layer is of an even width and even height, then you’ll be fine. If it’s of an odd width and odd height, you’ll also be okay. But if they’re of an odd width by even height or even width by odd height, then you’ll see something like the result below:In this case, the artwork is 20 × 9 pixels: even-by-odd dimensions. The results for bitmap layers and vector layers are different, but they both produce unusable results because the origin of rotation doesn’t fall on an exact pixel boundary.
A Fix

Because even-by-odd or odd-by-even dimensions are the problem, we need a way to ensure that the contents of the layer are odd-by-odd or even-by-even. Probably any method you can think of will solve this problem, be it adding a square bitmap mask to a layer or adding more content to the layer that you’re rotating. You could also draw a square on another layer and rotate both at once.

As long as the dimensions for the layer or layers are even-by-even or odd-by-odd, it’ll be fine.

Pixel perfect vector pasting in photoshop

By default Photoshop tries to improve image quality by adding a feather effect to the contour of resized images. This feature can be very annoying when you're working on web designs. You have surely already experienced it. Here is a screenshot of what we're talking about:

The image just doesn't look crisp like this and this is a basic square. Notice the values for positioning and size are not natural numbers. There is no such thing as half a pixel, but photoshop will try to achieve the effect with that feather. Fortunately you can change the settings to reduce this to a minimum.
Set up proper units

Go to File > Preferences > Units & Rulers. Change the units for both Types and Rulers to pixels.
Set up a grid

From the preferences menu choose Guides, Grid, Slices & Count. Now set a pixel grid according to your needs. It's good to have subdivisions every pixel for the images to snap to.

One last thing you may find useful is to make sure your shapes snap to natural pixel numbers. This is specially useful for shapes with curved lines. To activate the snapping check the box in the tool options as you see in the screenshot.

Configure Photoshop for pixel perfect design

If you’ve drawn pixel snapped artwork in Illustrator and pasted it into Photoshop as a shape layer, you may have noticed that the results can vary from exactly what you’d expect—a perfectly sharp image—to a blurry mess. Here’s how to fix that.

Below is some artwork as it appears in Illustrator. Perfectly formed, snapped to the pixel grid, and at the size we intend to use it in Photoshop.

The same paths, pasted into Photoshop a few times. Notice how only the top left version is sharp, while the others are half a pixel out on the X axis, Y axis, or both.

What went wrong?

Photoshop’s pasting behaviour works one of two ways. If there’s a selection, the clipboard contents is pasted so the center of the clipboard is aligned with the center of the selection. If there isn’t a selection, it’s pasted so the center of the clipboard aligns with the center of your current view. How far in you’re zoomed and the portion of the document you’re viewing will determine the result.
A fix

Our test artwork is 32 pixels wide and 12 pixels high. Drawing a 32×12 pixel marquee selection in Photoshop will force the artwork to land exactly where we want it, and to be pixel aligned. This works every single time.

Pixel perfect vector nudging in photoshop

If you're a pixel-perfectionist like us at MediaLoot, then sometimes you might be left annoyed and/or perplexed when spot blurry, unrefined edges in your designs. It's a common problem, but luckily, salvation is here! By using a few tips and tricks that will be divulged, and demonstrated in this article, you can finally put a stop to the fuzziness.

The purpose of this post is simply to share a few tried and tested techniques, for taming pixels in Photoshop. When working with vectors in particular in Photoshop, it's very easy to end up with design elements that straddle half-pixels, quarter-pixels and even smaller.

In fact, Photoshop can essentially split every pixel in a document into another one hundred pixels. Which is pretty awesome in terms of control and preciseness, but not so great for keeping design elements clean and sharp.

So, without further ado, here is our collection of tips for pixel perfection in Photoshop. Each tip is accompanied by a short video demonstrating the technique.For many web and user interface designers, this is probably one of the best, unique features of Photoshop. Yet it is so hidden in the application that a lot of users aren't even aware of it's existence! The "Two-Up" technique, as I like to call it, is when you use the "Arrange Documents" feature in top toolbar, to set up two instances of the same document, side by side.

This technique allows you to zoom in and make detailed edits in one window, whilst always being able to see what the pixels look like at actual size in another window. It has tonnes of useful applications, including working on small icons and tweaking any small details in designs.

You can also use this technique to assist you in designing interfaces for the iPhone. Just set up the Retina resolution document in one window, and then zoom to 50% in the second window, and you will get an idea of how the design will appear on standard resolution iPhones.

Pixel Perfect for Photoshop Tips

The behaviour seems intentional, but it’s not usually what I’m after. Most of the time I want to nudge in whole pixel increments. Here’s how you can do that, without zooming out to 100%.

Open your document, then create second window by choosing Window > Arrange > New Window. You can then resize the new window and place it somewhere that’s out of the way.

Edit in the other window as normal, zooming in as far as you’d like. You’ll now be able to press Command-` to switch back to the window that’s zoomed to 100%, nudge using the arrow keys, then press Command-` to switch back again. Because the other window is zoomed to 100%, nudging will move the selected vector points exactly 1 pixel.

Please note that holding shift while using the arrow keys to nudge always moves 10 pixels, no matter how far in you’re zoomed. Also, dragging points with the mouse snaps to pixels in most situations. Most, but not all.

While not perfect, this technique has helped remove some of the frustration with detailed vector path editing in Photoshop. Or maybe it’s just another reason complex shapes should be drawn in Illustrator first, then pasted as shape layers?

If anyone from the Photoshop team at Adobe is reading this, please consider adding a global Snap To Pixel option that replaces all the other similar options sprayed throughout the UI. Just one global switch that can be either on or off that means every single action can be pixel snapped or not.
